Madeira is a wonderful place to visit. The island was voted best European Island destination for the ninth time, in September 2023.
The scenery is very dramatic where ever you are on the Island. The residents are friendly and the crime rate is extremely low. There are enough places of interest to visit to keep a family fully occupied, for a two week holiday. For keen walkers, there are miles and miles of Levada walks, most of which have spectacular views.
The climate is good all year round. Even in Winter the daytime temperature won't drop below 15c. And is regularly 21c - 23c or higher.
In Summer the temperature is regularly 28c - 35c but can go up to 40c. There is little rain in the summer, and five months of completely dry days is normal.
The Villas are situated at 1742 feet above sea level. This is quite normal and most villages are at a similar altitude because it was the only suitable place in the old days to build a road. And also where the land flattened out sufficently, to be able to farm. Few people live below 500 feet because of the steepness of the cliffs. After a day at the beach, this has the advantage of retreating to a slightly cooler altitude with a breeze, with the most magnificent views of the Ocean.
The Via Rapide is the new road that connects all corners of the island. Tunnels of up to 4km cut through the rock, to make for easy driving, and bypassing the winding country roads. A further extension has recently been completed, now making the journey to Faja da Ovelha very easy. From the Airport to exiting the VR3 at Faja, it is only 5 minutes to Blue Sea Villa and Blue Sea Cottage
